Returning to a favorite series to finish a forgotten installation - Part 3
Current Playthrough
Hello sly sub riders, I hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend! I don't know about you, but I'm incredibly grateful to all the men and women who have sacrificed to give us the many freedoms we enjoy in this country. Thank you to our troops for all your efforts!
Last time I was working on my file I went through a bunch of item auctions. I highly recommend setting aside some time to do the auctions, because once you gain all of the territories in an area, they auction off rare equipment that teaches your units some great moves. I got a couple ultima weapons, and some armor that really beefed up my units.
But I have to say I have mixed feelings about it, because it's just so easy to abuse the system lol. This is one key difference between FFTA & FFTA2 that I actually prefer in the first installment. I liked unlocking equipment in batches as I progressed through the story. The pacing of the store expanding was very good in FFTA, I can't recall units ever being stuck at a place where they couldn't learn something new. However in FFTA2, I reached this point with multiple units and essentially had no choice but to abuse the auction houses a bit just to keep learning new moves. This mostly happened with units that didn't have many jobs to choose from, but still... I liked feeling like the equipment tied into my growth as a player as I went through the story, rather than feeling a bit disconnected through this auction house and loot system. The loot system is a neat idea, don't get me wrong, and theoretically it does connect the progression to equipment because different missions give you different loot... but law reward loot has a random element to it that takes away from this connection for me. I'm not sure if you're tracking with me on all this, but either way that's just my personal opinion.
I'm at the point in the story where I have flown to Fluorgis and I am very excited to see what this new zone has in store! The thing I'm looking forward to the most is the story deepening and becoming more complex. There's been a couple moments that have hinted at this potential shift, and I am hoping it's true. That'll be something that strongly impacts my overall review of this game upon completion, because even though FFTA was a relatively simple and straightforward story, I felt that it was executed very well and I was already missing the game shortly after beating it!
All this goes to say, I'm looking forward to seeing how this game unfolds and I'm enjoying it so far. I just did a quest that unlocked the Parivir job and I'm looking forward to trying it out!
